World Book Day 2023 took place on Thursday 2nd March 2023. As part of this Years celebrations Millington Primary had a Battle of the Picture Books. Teacher were recorded reading various picture books. All classes heard two books every day in the run up to World Book Day. Classes then voted for their favourite book based on the story, illustrations and how the book made them feel.
The scores were recorded on a score board and on World Book Day an actual winner was announced. The two finalists were How to hide a Lion by Helen Stephens and Giraffe can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. After a very close final the winner was How to hide a Lion by Helen Stephens. Mrs Hall then Tweeted Helen Stephens to tell her picture book was the winner of Millington Primary School Big Picture Book Battle. All 16 stories were beautifully read by all teachers.
Children also had the opportunity to dress up on the 2nd March as their favourite book characters. Spot prizes were given for best costumes in all classes. The children and teachers went to great efforts to make the day a very enjoyable and memorable one.
We can’t wait until next year. Hopefully it will be as memorable as this year.
